2015 CCL Teen Summer Reading

Chester County Library's Teen Summer Reading program has begun! This year's theme is "Unmask." Here's how it works: Come to the Youth Services Department to get your calendar. From June 8th to August 16th, mark your calendar each day you read or listen to books for 60 minutes. You'll get a prize when you reach 20 days of reading, 40 days of reading, and 60 days of reading. Each time your calendar is checked, your name will be entered in the Teen Summer Reading Raffle. The raffle will be held on September 4th, and winners will be notified by phone.

Below is a list of all summer teen events. You need to register online for these events. You can register by going to www.chescolibraries.org > Events > Teen Programs > On the calendar, find the event date and click on the event name > Fill in your information.

Then you'll do some Book Speed-Dating -- You'll "get to know" a book for 4 minutes, and then...DING! When the bell rings, you'll rate how much you liked or didn't like that book. Then you'll move on to the next book, "get to know it" for 4 minutes and rate it...and so on. It's a fun way to acquaint yourself with a lot of books in a short amount of time.

The Bake-Off will be held on Friday, March 27, from 4:00-5:30 pm in the Struble Room at Chester County Library.

There are 3 categories in this year's Bake-Off:

- Quick Breads/Muffins
There will be one winner from each category.

BAKE-OFF RULES:
  • Bakers must be 11-19 years old (no adults or younger children, please).
  • You must register online for this event. Go to www.chescolibraries.org - Events - Teen Programs - On the calendar, go to March 27 and click on Teen Bake-Off - Fill in your information.

  • You can bake by yourself or with a partner. If you are baking with a partner, only ONE of you needs to register. Please type your partner's name in the "Notes" section of the registration form.
  • When you bring your baked good to the Bake-Off on March 27th, you also must bring 2 things:
    • An index card with your name (and your partner's name, if you have one) and the name of your baked good on it.

Holiday Stockings Delivered to Veterans!

A big THANK YOU to everyone who donated items for holiday stockings for veterans at Coatesville Veterans Medical Center!

Pictured above (in the back row) are Teen Library Crew members Ryan Casey and Beth Urbani, along with Youth Services Librarian Lisa Urbani, delivering the stockings to a women's PTSD unit on December 16th. They also delivered stockings to a men's PTSD unit.

On December 10th, 18 teens came to Chester County Library to fill the stockings with candy, cookies, personal care items, CCL book bags, gift cards to Wawa and Walmart, and a holiday card. We made 85 stockings! THANK YOU to all the teens who volunteered their time to do this. Here are some photos from that day:
